Service of prayer and remembrance for the Japanese people

Wednesday 16 March, 7pm in Selwyn College Chapel

Following the catastrophe of the recent earthquake and tsunami, the community of Selwyn Chapel will hold a service of prayer and remembrance this Wednesday for Japanese members of the University and anyone who wishes to join them to express spiritual solidarity.

It will be a Christian (Church of England) service, although we plan to include a Buddhist element.  We want to be inclusive enough for people of any faith to join us in spiritual response to the events that have happened.

The service should last no longer than 45 minutes and will include hymns, prayers, readings and the lighting of candles or incense in prayer for those who wish.  The service will include prayers in Japanese.

We hope that our Japanese friends will feel able to join us.  Everybody is welcome, whether Japanese or not, and whatever their religious beliefs.

Yours in peace,

from Tom Plant
